The Florida State Geography Bee is an annual event that takes place in schools all around the state. This friendly competition between young geographers precedes the National Geography Bee, in which finalists compete at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington D.C.

Registration for school geography bees with the National Geographic Society has begun. Registration information can be found at web link below:

A code for a 10% discount on the registration fee can be found by clicking the About tab on this page.

School GeoBee Video Contest

The Florida Geographic Alliance will award a $500 prize to two (2) schools that participate in this year’s National Geographic GeoBee. To be eligible for the prize, a school needs to:

  • Register for this year’s National Geographic GeoBee

  • Let us know that you’ll be conducting a school GeoBee (just send a brief email "We're In" to roldako@ju.edu)

  • Conduct your school GeoBee and video the most interesting parts (student and teacher preparations, asking and answering questions, determining the school GeoBee champion, etc.). Videoing with your smart phone is perfectly fine. National Geographic has approved videoing your school GeoBee for this purpose.

  • Send us a 3-5 minute video of your school GeoBee.

  • The two schools with the best video (as determined by the National Geographic Florida GeoBee staff) will receive a check for $500 to be spent whichever way the school chooses.

  • Get us your videos by February 28, 2020, and the winner will be selected by March 13, 2020.

  • In addition to the cash prize, we will acknowledge the winning school and show their video at the National Geographic State GeoBee held in Jacksonville on March 29, 2020, and post it on the National Geographic Florida GeoBee web site.

We hope you will join the fun! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
